Why buy an XGA projector vs a SVGA Projector? XGA resolution projectors produce more detail as well as a much better image. Because song lyrics and scripture need to be quite large for the back of the congregation to read, SVGA resolution projectors could be used. SVGA is an acceptable resolution when you intend to project large type and large images that are not detail oriented. You can save quite a bit of money by purchasing a high brightness SVGA resolution projector, rather than an XGA resolution projector. Of course, if you choose to spend a little more for an XGA resolution projector, your church-goers will receive a much better image. At Pointofpower.com we sell only XGA proj
ectors, since we want the best quaility image possible portrayed to our congregations.
Bulb Burnout: To buy a replacement or not? Can you predict when to replace a bulb before it fails? Bulb life is a function of how often you use your projector and how well you treat it. But another key factor is the ability of the projector's fan to keep the bulb cool during operation. Many projectors have air filters to keep the bulb area free of dust and dirt. As the filter traps material, airflow is reduced, bulb temperature increases, and bulb life is shortened. Clean or replace the filter on a regular basis, as recommended in your manual, to maximize bulb life.
Cooling airflow can also be restricted by the location of the projector or the mount used. Make sure that the mount does not interfere with air intake, air exhaust, or access to the filter. Also make sure the projector is located where there is plenty of open space.
Replacement bulbs cost in the $300-$400 range in most cases. This might seem like a lot of money to have sitting on a shelf, but consider the cost of getting a replacement bulb shipped overnight for a critical presentation the next day-or the cost of not having the projector available when someone is counting on it. At Point of Power, Jeanne generally does not recommend getting a replacement bulb because if you only use your projector 2-3 hours per week and the bulb life is 2000 - 3000 hours, that gives you 10 - 12 years of life and by that time, you'll want a new projector!
